The Story Behind Herts Book FEstival

With 20+ book clubs, 2 well-stocked libraries and 1000s of potential readers, the neighbouring towns of Hertford and Ware are well-placed to host a book festival.

A tiny volunteer committee, backed by a growing team of supporters, has been organising Herts Book Festival since 2021. Now in it's 5th year, the festival attracts and connects numerous local authors to a far-reaching community.

Herts Book Festival is annual 2 day event in May, across the 2 towns. A varied programme of workshops, panels, author talks and storytelling is scheduled alongside the Author Market and popular Book Exchange.

The organisers aim for Herts Book Festival to accessible and inclusive with events targeting both families and adult readers. For 2026, the festival has a Science and Nature theme.

We look forward to celebrating our authors and books, reading and storytelling with you in May!

"It was a wonderful festival, really well run. I sold lots of books and met even more customers and authors. A really great couple of days."

"This is a fantastic event that is totally in line with the ethos of the Federation of Children's Book Groups. We had a great time talking to families about books"
